    I don't know if tis should be in your list or not. But anther result of leaving comments, is that blog writers really appreciate it. Blog writers like to know and see that people are interested in their blogs. And comments are the best way for them to see that. Blog writers will often return the favor and visit a "commentor's" blog to see who that person is and what they are writing about.

    Robert - you're absolutely right that bloggers will visit the site's of people who comment on their blogs. I made that point in one of my previous posts about commenting and its importance, so you're right on the money there.

    I know that I enjoy it when someone comments. I feel like they are enjoying what I have to say and it spurs me on to continue blogging.

    I find that it's important to be genuine. Not fishing for something with comments. But actually really have interest in the post topic and feel like I can add something to the conversation. After all, isn't that what comments grow into - conversation?

    This is a great tip. Even though you probably won't get much traffic from comments, they are a great way to get other bloggers to take notice. All bloggers read there comments and normally go to the visitor's sites. The more bloggers know about your site, the better chance some will link to you.

    I get THOUSANDS of comments on our blog. But Akismet catches most of them :).

    I'm just starting out using on-line Buzz Marketing techniques. I think leaving comments can generate a lot of traffic, but I assume you have to target blogs that relate to your issue, product, or service. So how do you find the right types of blogs...ones that attract people who might have a genuine interest in your brand? Thanks.

    John - that's a great question.

    Here's a couple ideas:

    * Search on Google for the keywords that you would like your blog/site to show up highly for. See what comes up.

    * Search using Google Blogsearch also.

    * Try searching on Technorati as well, which is a huge index of blogs.

    Between those 3 sites you should start to find some relevant blogs. And most have blogrolls, which you can use to find others...

    As soon as you find some, leave comments and link to those blogs in your posts (where appropriate) so they become aware of you, visit and the community grows...

    I am very confused on making the most from blog comments. I have heard that it helps you by creating backlinks. I don't understand how that works out if you can't leave a comment with html and have anchor text. If you use your keywords as your name will that help at all? Ok so I see that disclaimer at the bottom there. So I guess that using keywords as your name does help but the blog community looks down on it?

    Sometimes I do drive-bys on blogs as I leverage my somewhat edgy and borderline irreverent brand of sarcastic humor. It's amusing to me and, since I use StumbleUpon to discover the blogs I eventually comment on (like this one) I never see what happens when I leave. I am the cutting edge of 'net humor. Hopefully you'll see me around.
